But...Thanks, I noted the change in the post above. But I don't think that it makes any difference. If someone opposes Obamacare because they dislike black people, then of course they're going to say that they oppose the mandate. Likewise any of the other reasons I mentioned. The mandate was nowhere near as unpopular when it was a Republican mandate as part of Romneycare, and I think that it's safe to say that a small fraction of people are really opposed to it because it's a corporate giveaway, a much larger fraction are opposed for reasons that aren't left reasons in any way. In any case opposing the mandate while supporting other parts of Obamacare is incoherent -- the whole thing is supposed to be a piece whose parts support each other, whether you like it as a whole or not.

The post that I commented on was too confident that a particular solution had been chosen by elites. It doesn't stand up to reality testing that indicates that elites really didn't control the exact solution, only the range of solutions. Yes, medicaid expansion was cut down, which agrees with what I wrote -- at each stage, the part of the decision tree that elites most dislike is likely to be pruned. But casting the final outcome as a decision of elite interests rather than an arbitrary decision of one person overestimates how in control our elites are.Rich Puchalskyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13565210317964576866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1991402668327441142.post-34298063872509823342012-06-28T16:39:35.073-07:002012-06-28T16:39:35.073-07:0070% oppose the mandate, which is what was in quest...70% oppose the mandate, which is what was in question. that's what was upheld (note that medicaid expansion was cut down.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
